Men's Health Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy in Men's Health

Physiotherapy in men's health is a sub-specialty of physiotherapy that involves non-surgical approaches specifically planned and applied to address various health problems seen in men. Through men's health physiotherapy, sexual health issues and dysfunctions of pelvic organs can be treated by focusing on the pelvic floor muscles.

Previously known primarily as a method to improve women's sexual health, pelvic floor rehabilitation has recently been used worldwide for treating problems such as premature ejaculation, urinary dysfunction, erectile dysfunction, pelvic pain, and constipation.

Pelvic Floor Muscles

The pelvic floor muscles are responsible for:

  • Urine retention and release
  • Fecal retention and release
  • Sexual functions
  • Stabilization of the tailbone region
  • Stabilization of the lower back region
  • Connection and stabilization between the lower back and the tailbone

Therefore, any problems with these activities are directly related to the pelvic floor.

What Does Men's Health Physiotherapy Include?

Men's health physiotherapy addresses:

  • Problems related to urine or feces
  • Sexual dysfunctions
  • Tailbone pain
  • Some lower back pain
  • Pain during coughing, straining, sneezing
  • Constipation
  • Sitting problems

If no issues are found during a urology examination related to these complaints, men's health rehabilitation can resolve these issues.

Men's Health Physiotherapy Practice

Internal (via the anal canal) and external applications are performed by specialized physiotherapists. The patient may lie in various positions such as on their back, side, or stomach. The procedure does not involve unbearable pain or discomfort and lasts approximately 30 minutes. No side effects or problems are expected.
