What is Neck Hernia? What are the Treatment Methods?

What is a cervical disc herniation Body weights, which face the effects mostly in vertical methods with the spine, mean the execution of movement functions as well as resisting external forces. As such, two conflicting characteristics come into play, such as staying still and being mobile. The two features are provided by the segmented structures of the vertebrae and the discs between the vertebrae.

Working at a computer for hours on end and being sedentary cause people's lives to be negatively affected. It is observed that people's quality of life is seriously negatively affected. However, following the new methods developed by neurosurgeons, both the diagnosis and treatment processes become shorter and the quality of life increases.

What is Cervical Hernia?

What is cervical disc herniation? Body weights, which are mostly faced with the effects of the spine and vertical methods, mean the execution of movement functions as well as resisting external forces. As such, two conflicting features such as staying still and being mobile come into play. The two features are provided by the segmented structures of the spine and the discs located between the vertebrae.

The discs continue to absorb the forces applied between side bending and rotation in vertical directions. The bipedal stance of human beings also occurs with the reflection movements on the disc. Each vertebral body in the cervical region helps the senses and movements of these regions by spreading to the arm and tear in the nerves formed at the level of each vertebral body. It is a problem that occurs as a result of the gelatinous inner parts of the disc tissues located in the intermediate parts of the vertebrae tearing the outer part consisting of a stronger connective tissue and then pressing the spinal cord and nerves.

What are the Symptoms of Cervical Hernia?

When the symptoms of cervical hernia are examined in general terms, it is characterized as a disease that causes effects on the spinal cord and nerve roots, mostly occurring in the 30s and 40s. The symptoms of cervical hernia vary according to the duration and severity of the disease. When the most common neck hernia symptoms are examined;

  • Unilateral pain towards the arm parts
  • Pain radiating to the fingertips and manifested by numbness
  • Observation of loss of strength in the arm where the pain is radiating along with the pain
  • Objects falling from the hand for no reason
  • It is observed as difficulty in walking and imbalance problems.

Cervical herniated discs can occur in two different periods, either acute or chronic. In acute periods, herniation or free protrusion of the nucleus pulposus can be observed. In chronic periods, pecking on the bones or widespread degeneration of the structures that make up the spinal systems in general and the picture called cervical spondylosis comes into play. Acute cervical disc herniations are characterized by unilateral pain radiating to the shoulder blades, chest and upper extremities. The pain may increase with coughing, straining or sneezing.

If the pain and numbness rates become more frequent and do not go away with bed rest after a certain period of time, it is absolutely necessary to go to a neurosurgeon and get medical support.

Neck Hernia Treatment

Treatment of cervical herniated discs is mostly at home with rest and bed rest if the disease is observed in mild severity. Choosing a stress-free life, support from painkillers and physical therapies can relieve neck and arm pain.

Today, neck hernia surgeries are generally successful. Cervical herniated discs, which cause loss of sleep and decrease in quality of life, are treated with microsurgical methods. These methods help the complaints that occur in patients to disappear in a short time, while the quality of life that decreases due to lifting or pain is increased again.

The main purpose of cervical hernia surgery is to eliminate the compression of the spinal cord and the nerves that are observed to emerge from them, while helping to preserve the load-bearing and mobility functions of the structures and cervical spines located at many anatomical levels. In general, surgical methods can cause extensive destruction of normal tissue. In this way, the spinal cord and nerve tissues can begin to relax, while at the same time the functions of the spine can be disrupted. Thus, it can be considered normal for patients to undergo surgical procedures using a variety of materials such as cages, plates and screws. In this way, many problems remain in the background.
